How Online Education is Affecting the World of Education

 Ever since the internet came into being, it has affected our lives in innumerable ways. The whole world transformed into a global village with its advent in no time. We can hardly imagine our life without internet today. One of the major areas where internet has offered tremendous help is Education. Earlier knowledge remained confined to libraries and textbooks; people had to travel amusingly long distances to acquire these resources. It needed surmount inspiration to learn then. We are now talking about acquiring knowledge and degrees through our fingertips sitting in the comfort zone of our homes.

Anyone interested enough can get access to world libraries and lectures of renowned professors. Students can pursue and enhance the knowledge of their interest. They can choose subjects in any combination to study as there are no restrictions on the subject combination.

A person with a job can attend the lectures later, according to his convenience. This eliminates the time barrier.

 

3. Financially Affordable:
You no longer have to travel the foreign land to join elite universities. These universities are providing online degrees at affordable rates and sometimes even free like The Stanford University, USA.

 

4. Interactive Learning:
There is a provision of online discussions and study groups. If you find yourself stuck on a problem, you can always ask for help from fellow learners or professors through email and chats.

 

5. No Place Barrier:
No place restriction to access the knowledge! You might be in your home, office, bus, train etc., you can still switch on your online courses.

 

6. Private Tutorials:
Anyone with sound knowledge on a particular subject can find a platform to share with the other people willing to learn. He /she can post video lectures and private tutorials online.

 

The leading countries in promoting online education include USA, South Africa, South Korea, India, Malaysia, and UK. These countries have invested a fair amount of money in online education. USA saw 10% increase in online students between 2010 and 2011. In India, the coveted IITs and private schools like Sikkim-Manipal University, American universities have made efforts to bring online education, offering courses at MIT, Carnegie Mellon and Cornell to Indian students. It is estimated that China has almost 70 online colleges and it is very likely to increase. Online education has one of the most powerful tools in promoting education worldwide.

Today electronic devices such as computer, smartphone, laptop, etc. have made education available for everyone. This article tells how the presence of internet is changing the education holistically.
